La Notte della Taranta – The biggest traditional music festival in Europe

Province of Lecce, August 7-22, 2012- The biggest European festival dedicated to traditional music

La Notte della Taranta

The 15th edition of La Notte della Taranta (Night of the Taranta), the biggest traditional music festival in Europe, begins every year in Corigliano d’Otranto. The event visits many municipalities in the zone of Apulia that is known as Grecia Salentina, making 15 stops and this year including Sogliano Cavour.
After the huge success of last year’s edition, La Notte della Taranta makes its return to Lecce on Friday, August 17; in the beautiful setting of Piazza Sant’Oronzo, Radiodervish, together with the Sannicandro Band of Bari, will present an original project, entitled “Bandervish”.

Then it’s Ambrogio Sparagna’s turn with his Orchestra Popolare Italiana, featuring Simone Cristicchi and Pino Ingrosso.
The event abounds with special projects: Tarantares, at Sogliano Cavour on August 12, is the result of a collaboration between the La Notte della Taranta Foundation and SoundRes; then, Arakne Mediterranea  and Tenores di Bitti dalla Sardegna (Sardinia’s Bitti Tenors) will carry the night of August 13 in Soleto; while on the 14th Boban and Marko Markovic will perform as a duet in Calimera on the 14th.
On Sunday, August 19th, Galatina will pay homage to Piero Milesi (Maestro of the event’s concerts from 2007 al 2009). The La Notte della Taranta Ensemble will share the stage with many musical guests, including Vittorio Cosma, Mario Arcari, Maurizio Dehò and Mauro Pagani.
The much-anticipated grand finale concert will take place at Meplpignano on August 25th; conducting the Orchestra della Notte delle Taranta, maestro Goran Bregovic will give life to an original musical project, in which the music from both coasts of the Adriatic will mix and resound.
