A trip into the medieval village that dominates a long golden beach…
You will notice it from far away, with its castle surrounded by the Mediterranean nature. Castiglione della Pescaia is the most lively place of the all Maremma Toscana.
This medieval village, surrounded by walls, with eleven towers and its imposing castle facing the beach, is a unique resort town, attractive, lively and perfect for a holiday.
The places to visit are many, from the picturesque harbor, where the fishing boats tie every day to deliver the freshly caught fish. The village, dominated for centuries by the families of Aragonese, the Piccolomini, the Medici and Lorena, conserves intact its ancient portals, the cobbled stone streets, and offers charming views and corners. In the pine forests surrounding Castiglione della Pescaia are numerous elegant residences and camping spots, very well organized and equipped.
Spiaggia delle Rocchette is considered the most beautiful beach of the region, it is located only 7 km from Castiglione
della Pescaia and offers a panoramic view of rare beauty.
In Mid-August in Castiglione della Pescaia the sea becomes the center of the seaside town for the annual Palio. The festival opens on August 14 with the first race, while on Sunday a blessing to all vessels and boats in the harbor and the sea procession of the Virgin open the long day of festivities, which has its apex in the night race of the illuminated boats on the river Bruna, involving young people of the five districts of the city. The race consists on a rowing contest on two thousand meters of path.
